Voice quality on the 258R is exceptional.  Before a call is placed, the system automatically scans the channel spectrum and selects the clearest channel on which to place the call.  Once the call is placed, a sophisticated compander (a device that reduces line noise, similar to how Dolby™ reduces the “hiss” on an audio tape) takes control to ensure clear transmission.  Many customers tell us that even when the scrambler is in use sound quality is quite good. Multiple handsets may be used to communicate with one another in half duplex “walkie talkie” mode.  Up to 15 handsets may join a conversation. A user can send a broadcast message to any/all handsets.  This radio communication takes place independently of the phone line.  A handset to base station intercom feature is also standard.  The intercom/walkie-talkie can even be used while a call is in progress.

The 258R is completely customizable.  For example - when a call is transferred to a handset, and that handset doesn’t answer after the designated user programmable “waiting time,” the call will revert back to the original handset.  Users can program a wait time from 15-55 seconds.  Handsets may easily be programmed to only allow outgoing calls, only accept incoming calls, and so on.  To further conserve battery life, the user may adjust the standby time from 58 hours to 98 hours.  The longer the standby time, the longer the phones takes to ring when an incoming call is received.  Other features such as flash time, length of DTMF tone generation, and much more are also programmable.

In addition to the outstanding features above, users will enjoy a low battery display with audible alert, power save mode (handset transmits at lowest level of power necessary to maintain a clear connection – thus saving battery life), any key answer, 10 number speed dial, and more.  Standard features such as adjustable voice and ring volume are also included.  Let’s not forget the most important feature of all, a user customizable communication range of up to 100km!
